Silvio Berlusconi has called on his Milan players to ‘take a step forward’ in every game, following what he sees as an encouraging derby against Inter.

The Rossoneri once more lunched on Friday with their visiting President, and his address to them at Milanello began with focus on last weekend’s 1-1 draw.

“You didn’t let Inter play, you stopped Kovacic, so my compliments to Essien,” Berlusconi is reported by Milan’s site to have begun.

“The goal was wonderful, of a new father [Menez]. It wasn’t a bad match, you fought with lots of strength, enthusiasm and passion.

“Now in every match we must take a step forward, an extra improvement. I encourage the Coach to make changes, so that no one feels excluded and so that they always have the desire to continue making sacrifices by keeping themselves in shape.

“Luckily I have a good sense of humour, it’s a big defence against everything, against evils, use it as often as you can.”

The President had particular words for Stephan El Shaarawy, who missed a late chance to win the derby.

“You, Stephan, remember to keep your head lower, this way the shot will be lower…

“Put lots of heavy things in your hair, this way it comes naturally to lower your head and the shot will go lower – if you have your body up high, the shot goes high.

“I know there’s a good atmosphere amongst you, I’m happy, you know that I am always here for you like a big brother or as a grand-father, as you prefer.

“After a break over the last three years I’m back to being the President again and I can take care of these things.”
