Roma will fail in any attempt to sign Matias Silvestre from Serie A rivals Palermo during the January transfer window.

The Giallorossi are in need of a new centre-back after losing Nicolas Burdisso for the rest of the season to injury.

Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini is understood to be keen on the Rosanero’s Argentine stopper as cover for the ex-Inter man.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form for the Stadio Barbera outfit since his arrival from Sicilian rivals Catania in the summer.

Palermo though have no intention of selling the South American before the end of the current campaign.
