Beppe Signori celebrates his 50th birthday today and looks back over his career. “If it had been plain sailing, it wouldn’t have been fun.”
The former Foggia, Lazio, Sampdoria and Bologna hitman saw out his career overseas with Iraklis in Greece and Hungarians FC Sopron before retiring in 2008.
“They say that at this age you are meant to get wise, but I'm still waiting,” he joked on Radio Deejay.

“They say that at this age you are meant to get wise, but I'm still waiting,” he joked on Radio Deejay.
“I had a career of many ups and downs, but then if it had been plain sailing, it wouldn’t have been as much fun. The crowning moment was the dream of playing in a World Cup.
“At club level I made my name at Foggia with Zdenek Zeman, I was consecrated at Lazio and brought back from the dead at Bologna. These are the clubs where I had my best moments.”
Signori scored 188 goals in 344 Serie A appearances, winning the Capocannoniere title three times.
Yet his legacy has been somewhat tarnished by his involvement in a betting scandal, as he was arrested in 2011 and then given a five-year ban.
He was accused of helping to launder money for Singapore.
“I am waiting for trial, but what leaves me perplexed is that after seven years, the trial still has to start. I hope that I’ll be able to defend myself, otherwise it’ll all end up being futile.
“Without even being judged in a civil court, I was given a lifetime ban from the sport. All I can do is hold on tight to the affection people still have for me.”
