Siena have revealed the background to their failed attempt to sign Milan veteran Pippo Inzaghi last month.

The Tuscan minnows made a final deadline day offer for the 38-year-old, only for the striker to commit his future to the Rossoneri.

“We had been thinking about Inzaghi for quite some time,” Siena President Massimo Mezzaroma told SportItalia.

“We intensified our actions in the last few days of the window because we thought that he may decide to come and give us a hand.

“I believe that he thought about it for a long time and, in the end, that it was a difficult decision for him to make.”

Inzaghi has been left frustrated by his lack of use at Milan so far this season given that he has made just five League appearances and one in the Coppa Italia.
