There were several gestures to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine following the Russian invasion.

Milan, who are the ‘home’ team for this first leg, handed out cards for everyone attending with the Ukrainian flag and the word ‘Peace’ on it.

The Rossoneri players also warmed up wearing a T-Shirt with the same design.

Instead of the individual team photographs, both squads and the referees stood together mixed up behind a banner calling for ‘Peace.’

Before kick-off, a video message was played on the big screens at San Siro with Milan legend Shevchenko draped in the Ukrainian flag.

“Dear Italian friends, I ask you from San Siro to give your support for peace in Ukraine,” said the former Ukraine striker and manager.

“The Ukrainian people want peace, because peace has no borders, because what unites us must be stronger than what divides us.

“Let us stop this war together. I embrace you all.”
