Andriy Shevchenko said Genoa must be ‘very cautious’ against Milan, when he prepares for ‘emotional’ clash with his former club. ‘I will do everything to put the Rossoneri in difficulty’.
The Grifone host Milan at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Wednesday and it will represent Shevchenko’s first meeting with the Rossoneri as a coach.
The former striker, who won one Scudetto and the Champions League during his time with the Rossoneri, admitted he’s ‘excited’ to play against his former club.
“I will certainly be excited but right now I’m trying to block my emotions,” Shevchenko said at a press conference. “I’m a professional and I have promised the fans at Genoa that I will do my best for them.
“Right now, I will do all I can to put Milan in difficulty.”
Genoa arrive from a 0-0 draw with Udinese last time and Shevchenko knows he can expect a challenging match against second-placed Milan.
“We must be very cautious and very careful,” he said. “I will cheer for Milan, as always, but not in the match against Genoa.”
But Milan arrive from two consecutive defeats in Serie A and are desperate to return to winning ways.
Shevchenko, however, doesn’t believe the back-to-back losses will affect the way Stefano Pioli’s men play on Wednesday.
“It’s true that Milan come from two defeats, but they play good football,” Shevchenko said. “I have watched many of their games, especially the last two.
“They are a team that plays well and creates chances.”
