Genoa coach Andriy Shevchenko has revealed he will have Domenico Criscito and Mattia Destro back in time for the Derby della Lanterna against Sampdoria.

The match will be extra special due to the circumstances at Samp, where President Massimo Ferrero has stepped down from his position after being arrested in Milan earlier this week.

Genoa are fighting for safety and are looking for their first win under Shevchenko, who replaced Davide Ballardini in November.

The former Milan striker is preparing for his first Derby della Lanterna and has some good news ahead of the clash.

“I expect a tough and intense game,” Shevchenko said at a press conference. “With high spirit and conditions, with great courage. I expect great support from the fans.

“The support from the fans give us hope and the desire to go ahead, to fight and win the games.

“It has been a positive week. Criscito and Destro returned with us. Criscito is much more ahead, and we will evaluate his situation. Today, Destro is training with us too. We hope both will be ready tomorrow.”

When asked how he expects the team to play in the derby, Shevchenko stressed he wants to make the fans proud.

“We need have passion and cool heads. Games like these mean a lot to the fans. We need to prepare well and show courage.”
