Andriy Shevchenko’s future is hanging in the balance as Genoa are considering dismissing the Ukrainian coach.

The Rossoblu suffered a painful 1-0 home loss to Spezia tonight, leaving them stuck 19th in the Serie A table after 21 games, one point behind Cagliari, who have a game in hand. The Ukrainian coach was not even on the sidelines for this match, having tested positive for COVID earlier in the week.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Shevchenko’s position as head coach is now at risk, with Genoa considering dismissing the 45-year-old.

Shevchenko has only picked up three points since joining the club at the beginning of November, stemming from three draws. He has failed to inject some life into the Ligurian club, who now seem destined for relegation this campaign.

The 45-year-old coach was previously in charge of the Ukrainian national team and he guided the team to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 last summer.

  1. That would be a big mistake, he inherited a very bad team, it’s better to let him continue, even if they are going to be relegated, if they sack him, they will bring another coach who will do worse, and sack him also, what they need to do is support him in this transfer window that would enable them to survive..

  2. This is insane, the team is very unbalanced, and it’s his first club job ever, what did they expect from him? Why the owners didn’t hire somebody like Iakini who knows what to do in such situations? Sheva needs reinforcements ASAP, it’s obvious this team isn’t going to make it

  3. Woeful squad, so it matters little who they get in.

Genoa love sacking managers, but who’s hiring them? If they keep hiring the wrong guy time and time again, then shouldn’t THEY be sacked instead?

The clowns running Italian football are anything but funny.

  4. Yep, do that Genoa.

Get back on the ‘uninspiring Italian tactician with one idea’ merry-go-round, and get relegated anyway.

    Wow, smart.

  5. In the beginning of this season Genoa sold their many key players such as: Scamaca, Shomurodov, Pjaca and so on. Now obviously team is struggling to compete with other teams. They should get some quality players if they wish to stay on Serie A. As with this squad even Pep Guardiola won’t be able to do anything.
