Former England striker Alan Shearer was not impressed by Ciro Immobile rolling around the penalty box just before Nicolò Barella’s opener: ‘It’s pathetic and embarrassing.’

Immobile went down the penalty box in pain just before the Inter midfielder broke the deadlock against Belgium in the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2020 last night.

The Italy and Lazio striker appealed for a penalty kick, rolling around the ground inside the penalty box, but made the quickest recovery ever once his teammate dribbled past a Belgium defender and scored at the far post.

At that point, he stood up to celebrate with his teammates and the video has become viral on social media.

However, Shearer was not impressed by the behaviour of the 31-year-old and slammed Immobile ‘pathetic and embarrassing.’

“I don’t even want to laugh at that, because that’s pathetic,” he said on the BBC.

“You can see him even having a little look at the referee before he even goes down. It’s pathetically embarrassing!”

Andrea Belotti replaced immobile in the second half. The Lazio striker has two goals in four appearances at EURO 2020.
