Yann Sommer made a shaky debut for Inter in the 4-3 victory away to Red Bull Salzburg, which saw big defensive errors from both teams and two missed penalties.

The goalkeeper only completed his transfer from Bayern Munich this week for €6m to be paid over two years, but was thrown straight in at the deep end to start this friendly in Austria.

Lautaro Martinez was left at home due to a slight muscular issue and paternity leave, as he became a father for the second time on Monday.

Sommer is a penalty specialist and confirmed that at least, because Konate blasted his spot-kick over the bar after being brought down by the goalkeeper.

Moments later, Sommer tried to clear a poor backpass and got tangled up in a puddle, allowing Konate to deposit into an empty net.

Pavlovic accidentally turned Federico Dimarco’s cross into his own net to equalise and Nicolò Barella missed a couple of sitters before setting up Stefan de Vrij for a tap-in at the far post.

Inter looked very sluggish in defence and Denzel Dumfries was caught napping this time for Solet to nod down a corner into the path of Konate.

The heavy rainfall made it difficult for both teams and Tucu Correa pounced on another howler from the Salzburg defence.

Straight after the restart, Baidoo was left unmarked on a dinked ball over the top to make it 3-3, but Salzburg missed another penalty with Simic off target after a Yann Bisseck foul.

Simic had scored with a spectacular volley, but only after wandering offside.

Just as it seemed to be heading towards a 3-3 draw, Kristjan Asllani’s searching ball over the top found Stefano Sensi to fire in a winner.
