The sporting director of Shakhtar Donetsk, Darijo Srna, has labelled the club’s 21-year-old goalkeeper, Anatoliy Trubin, as ‘one of the best in Europe’ amidst serious interest from Inter as a potential replacement for Andre Onana.

One of Trubin’s representatives was spotted entering Inter’s club headquarters in Milan on Thursday evening for discussions with the club over a potential transfer this summer.

Inter’s goalkeeping department could still see a lot of upheaval this summer, with Inter still in negotiations with Manchester United over a deal for Onana, meaning that the Nerazzurri could soon need to bring in a new ‘keeper of their own.

Trubin is thought to be right at the top of that list, and the youngster comes with a lot of praise from the sporting director at his current club. However, Srna also issued a word of warning over the likely cost it would take to get him out of Ukraine.

“Right now he’s one of the best goalkeepers in Europe,” Srna said in a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. “He’s only 21 and he’s young, but he’s already played 17 Champions League matches and therefore already has experience. He’s ready for a big club.

“Trubin is ready for Italy, but also for England or France. He is a goalkeeper of the future.

“He has many offers and we are talking to many clubs, but everyone must understand one thing. If he leaves Shakhtar Donetsk, he will go to a top club for a top figure, like it was for Mudryk, and like it will be for Sudakov, Bondarenko or Matvienko in the future.

“No, we don’t talk about prices. Whoever wants him decides how much to offer and then we will decide whether that amount is suitable or not. Right now, Trubin is playing in a European championship and he’s doing well with Ukraine.

Srna continued: “We have time, we are a young team and we want to grow. If Trubin goes, he’s doing it for a big club and for a lot of money.”

The former Croatia defender then detailed what fans can expect from Trubin, who supposedly has all the qualities necessary to become a top goalkeeper in the European game.

Srna explained: “Everyone talks about him for his great technique and because he knows how to play with his feet.

“Obviously he needs to work, he has to grow and gain experience, but he’s already done a lot for his age. But everyone has to respect Ukraine, Shakhtar Donetsk and Trubin too. If a suitable offer arrives, we’ll talk about it.”
