Maurizio Setti says Verona “did something crazy” as they signed Nikola Kalinic from Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.

“We needed imagination, this opportunity came thanks to our Sporting Director Tony D’Amico. It is an important signing for Verona.

“It was expensive but it is also an important investment for the club. We’ve strengthened the team, now it is up to the coach.”

According to reports, Atletico Madrid agreed to let the player leave for free and the Colchoneros will pay part of the player’s salary in his first season at Verona.

The Croat has signed a two-year deal with the Gialloblu, with the player who has agreed to spread his €3m wages into a two-year deal.

Kalinic has already played in Serie A with Fiorentina, Milan and Roma.
