Demetrio Albertini has reiterated his faith in Fernando Torres and suggests a more productive Milan midfield would be to his benefit.

The Spaniard has come under increasing scrutiny for his slow start to life in Serie A, whilst his showing in the weekend derby draw with Inter proved low key.

For his former teammate at Atletico Madrid, who spent 14 years in Milan’s first team, Torres needs support.

“I played with him when he was a rising star in European football,” Albertini reflected to the Corriere della Sera this week.

“Fernando does not have the characteristics of a striker in the area, he is not a ‘bomber’.

“He is a player who needs to be supplied service, but with the formation that was used on Sunday, with two players like Essien and Muntari to break up play, how can such service be delivered?

“Torres is a player of Milan for his past and his professionalism.

“But in the last two seasons he has played little and Italian football is completely different from La Liga and the Premier League. So, we must wait for him, otherwise it is a problem.”
