It has been a disastrous start to his Empoli career for goalkeeper Elia Caprile, as after a howler on his Serie A debut, he has been ruled out by a serious injury.
He was guilty of a costly error in the 1-0 home defeat to Hellas Verona last week, which was his first ever top flight appearance.
Empoli have now announced Caprile has been diagnosed with a lesion of the ligament in his right ankle.
Surgery is not going to be considered for now, as he will continue physiotherapy and conservative treatment.
Today is the shot-stopper’s 22nd birthday and he arrived over the summer on loan from Napoli, who in turn purchased him from their sister club Bari for €7m.
Caprile also had experience at Leeds United, Pro Patria and Chievo early in his career, representing Italy at Under-20 and Under-21 level.
Samuele Perisan is therefore expected to step in for this Saturday’s trip to Monza.
