The Lega Pro has reportedly agreed to end the 2019-20 Serie C season here, promoting four clubs into Serie B – one by drawing lots – and blocking relegation.

While Serie A is tentatively planning a return at the end of May, with Serie B hoping to follow, the season may well already be over for the lower tiers.

Youth leagues and amateur levels were already suspended definitively this week due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Youth leagues and amateur levels were already suspended definitively this week due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to multiple sources, the Lega Pro decided today to suspend the Serie C1 campaign too.

Promotion into Serie B will be guaranteed for the three regional group leaders, in this case Monza, Vicenza and Reggina.

As for the fourth, which was meant to be decided via play-offs, there could be something as mundane as a draw of lots.

There should also be a block on relegation into Serie C2.

According to Sportitalia, resuming the season and adhering by all the guidelines on social distancing, repeated testing and cleaning would’ve cost each Serie C club at least €35,000.

This proposal will be presented to the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) in a meeting on May 4, to be approved by May 7.
