This format has been organised to find the fourth team gaining promotion into Serie B, after Reggina, Monza and Vicenza won their respective groups.

The 2019-20 season was closed early due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it was decided that play-offs would still go ahead for the fourth promoted team and the relegation play-outs.

Many Serie C clubs were against the idea of resuming the season at all, as they are not equipped to sustain the complex medical protocol.

With that in mind, the play-offs were organised on a ‘voluntary’ basis, so today those six clubs have opted out.
