There is another Italian club under American ownership, as Serie C side Cesena has been purchased by Robert Lewis and John Aiello.

The deal was completed today, with 57-year-old New York-based attorney and manager of private equity fund JRL Group at the helm.

According to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, the cost of the operation was €1.8m to purchase 60 per cent of the club shares.

Lewis will be the Cesena CEO as well as share the role of Co-President with John Aiello.

Cesena have had 13 campaigns in Serie A, most recently in 2014-15, and went bankrupt in 2018.

The takeover means that now there are 11 clubs under American ownership across Italy’s three professional leagues.

That includes six in Serie A, specifically Milan, Roma, Fiorentina, Genoa, Spezia and Venezia, while Bologna are owned by Canadian Joey Saputo.

In Serie B, Ascoli, Parma and SPAL are run by Americans, while in Serie C we now have Cesena joining Campobasso.

  1. i dont care who owns the clubs, except chinese, the gvt is to unreliable and freezing assets is a problem as is the case for milan and inter recently. But for godsake, attack the gvt for allowing investment in stadiums…. plsss for heavens sake

  2. wow 1.8 million for 60% is a great deal. specially for a team that was in top flight just a few years ago and could make it back soon.
