Bari have announced Massimo Carrera as their new head coach, as the club parted ways with coach Gaetano Auteri and sporting director Giancarlo Romairone.

The team fight for promotion to Serie B, as they currently sit second in Serie C after 22 games in the League.

Carrera has previously coached Spartak Moscow in Russia and AEK Athens in Greece but had been without a club since December.

“SSC Bari announce the agreement between the club and coach Massimo Carrera, who will take the position of technical manager of the first team until June, with an automatic extension until June 2022 in case of promotion,” the club wrote in a statement.

“The new coach will oversee his first training session tomorrow.”

And there were two farewells at the club today, as coach Auteri and sporting director Romairone have been dismissed.

“SSC Bari announce that they have relieved coach Gaetano Auteri from the position as head coach of the first team,” the club wrote in a separate statement.

“The club would like to thank Mr. Auteri, Mr. Cassia and Mr. Aprile for their commitment and professionalism, wishing them a future full of human and professional satisfaction.

Gianluca Colonello has been appointed assistant coach and Guido D’Urbano is the athletic coach under Carrera’s reign.

Carrera is a former centre-back and previously played five seasons at Bari, before the former Italy international earned a move to Juventus in July 1996.
