The 2014-15 Serie B season will kick off on August 29 and conclude on May 22 2015, but three clubs risk missing out.
President of Lega Serie B Andrea Abodi announced the dates today with “the hope all 22 clubs can register.”
Siena, Brescia and Varese are all fighting against the threat of bankruptcy and if they fail to show their financial stability in time, they won’t be allowed to register for the new season.
“Up until the Federal meeting on August 18 we are thinking of a 22-team Serie B, then we’ll see what happens.”
The campaign kicks off on Friday August 29 and includes five midweek rounds on September 23, October 28, December 24, March 3 and April 28.
They have not yet decided on when to hold a Winter break – which last season was in January – and the fixtures will only be drawn up at the start of August.
Abodi also confirmed the play-off system remains in place from last term, while he has made a formal request to use the ‘vanishing spray’ for free kicks, as tested in the World Cup.
Serie B are introducing a new figure, the ‘Supporter Liaison Officer’ – someone who will “facilitate the rapport between club and fans, those who respect the rules of football and the stadium.”
