The start of the 2023-24 Serie B season could be delayed, as Reggina will appeal their exclusion, while Brescia want to be let back in.

The campaign is supposed to kick off on August 19 and the fixture list is going to be drawn up next week.

However, as Reggina were excluded for financial irregularities and denied a licence to register for the new season, their spot in the calendar will be filled by an ‘X’.

Reggina have promised to go through every level of appeal to fight the exclusion and that could take quite some time, including the Consiglio di Garanzia dello Sport tribunal on July 20 or 21, then potentially the TAR tribunal on August 2.

It could even go all the way to the Consiglio di Stato, which wouldn’t be able to convene before August 28.

That is after the season is supposed to have kicked off, so they cannot begin the campaign without knowing who is going to be in it.

Massimo Cellino’s Brescia are next in line to be restored to Serie B in Reggina’s place, as they lost the relegation play-out to Cosenza.
