The Serie B table has changed after Pippo Inzaghi’s Reggina were docked three points for failing to pay taxes and player salaries on time.
The club had been given the deadline of February 16 to fulfil their financial obligations and did not manage to get the payments through.
Following that failure, the FIGC Disciplinary Committee announced it would dock Reggina three points from the 2022-23 Serie B tally.
Paolo Castaldi has also been suspended for three months.
There are five rounds to go in this Serie B regular season and this change affects the race for the promotion play-offs.
Frosinone are comfortably out on top with 67 points, followed by Genoa on 63, Bari 57, Sudtirol 52, Cagliari 48, Parma 48, Pisa 46 and now Reggina 46.
It is the second points penalty of the season, as Genoa were also docked one point for a similar failure to fulfil financial obligations on outstanding taxes.
The top two are promoted automatically into Serie A, while a third team will be chosen after a play-offs process involving the sides finishing from third to eighth place.
It is a similar process for relegation, the bottom two go down plus a third decided between the 16th and 17th placed teams.
