Salernitana have been awarded a 3-0 win by default after Reggiana failed to turn up for their Serie B Week 6 match due to COVID-19 cases.

The game had been due to take place on October 31, but Reggiana did not make the trip.

The Italian rules allow for a ‘bonus’ of one match that clubs can ask to be postponed due to an accumulation of COVID-19 cases.

However, Reggiana had already used up their bonus and were therefore obliged to send a group of players for this fixture, even if it was the youth team.

They opted not to travel at all, despite confirmation from the local health authority (ASL) that the Reggiana squad had not been banned from travelling.

Unlike Napoli in Serie A, Reggiana were not docked one point, as there were only 10 players available from the squad of 28, the other 18 laid low by Coronavirus.

The UEFA medical protocol rules that as long as a club has 13 players – one of which is a goalkeeper – available, the game must go ahead.
