Claudio Ranieri has taken Cagliari to the Serie B promotion play-off final against Bari, but Parma have reason to complain after VAR over-ruled goal-line technology.
The Final will be played over two legs on Thursday June 8 and Sunday June 11.
If that tie ends level on aggregate, the team that finished the regular season higher up the table will go into the top flight, without the need for extra time or penalties.
In this case, it would be Bari, who were third compared to Parma in fourth and Cagliari fifth.
Here too, away goals no longer count for double.
Cagliari had won the first leg of this semi-final in a 3-2 thriller, after Parma had been leading 2-0 and threw it all away.
Gianluca Lapadula thought he had opened the scoring at the Stadio Tardini after 35 minutes, but it was ruled offside.
Nahitan Nandez also stung the gloves of Leandro Chichizola, standing in for injured Gigi Buffon.
There was controversy on 74 minutes when Parma substitute Ange-Yoann Bonny saw his strike come off the upright, then the crossbar and the line. The referee’s watch buzzed, but VAR intervened to over-rule goal-line technology, insisting it had not completely crossed the line.
The Ducali continued to pour forward, Luca Zanimacchia’s right-foot scorcher smashing against the crossbar, then Cagliari wasted the chance to seal it with Luvumbo.
Chichizola kept it open to the end with a fingertip save on Nicolas Viola’s free kick.
Parma 0-0 Cagliari (2-3 agg)
