The Serie B promotion play-offs and relegation play-outs will begin on Friday May 13, involving Ascoli, Benevento, Brescia, Perugia, Monza, Pisa, Cosenza and Vicenza.
The regular 2021-22 season closed on Friday evening with the automatic promotion of Lecce and Cremonese in the top two spots.
A third team will be promoted via the play-offs, with the name of that club confirmed only on Sunday May 29.
The play-offs begin with the preliminary rounds Ascoli-Benevento on May 13 and Brescia-Perugia on May 14.
They will be decided after 90 minutes or extra time, with away goals not counting double, but there won’t be penalties.
If the teams are still level after 120 minutes, the side that finished higher in the regular standings will go through.
The semi-finals are two-legged affairs, the first on Tuesday May 17 sees Ascoli or Benevento host Pisa and on Wednesday May 18 the winner of Brescia-Perugia take on Monza.
The second legs are on May 21 and May 22.
Here too, the away goals rule does not apply, but if they are level on aggregate then the team that finished higher in the table will go through without the need for extra time or penalties.
As for the Final, the first leg is on Thursday May 26 and the decider on Sunday May 29.
If the teams are level on aggregate, the side with the most points in the regular season will be promoted.
If they finished on the same points, then it goes to extra time and maybe even penalties.
The relegation play-out is also over two legs, the first in Vicenza on May 12 and the second in Cosenza on May 20.
Here too, away goals do not count double, but the team highest in the regular season table will stay in Serie B if they are level on aggregate.
