After a successful interim period, Genoa have officially appointed Alberto Gilardino as their coach until the end of the season.

The tactician had been at the helm of the youth team and was promoted to the senior bench as a temporary measure when Alexander Blessin was sacked on December 6.

Gila made a fantastic first impression, securing three victories and a draw, in which Genoa scored five goals and conceded only one.

That proved enough for the Serie B side to confirm the 40-year-old in the job until the end of the season.

Genoa announced the decision by releasing a video in which the ‘interim’ was deleted from the original statement.

Gilardino is one of several 2006 World Cup winners to work as coaches in Serie B this term, along with Daniele De Rossi at SPAL, Fabio Cannavaro at Benevento and Fabio Grosso with Frosinone.

Serie B is raising the quality level, as Cagliari have also appointed veteran coach Claudio Ranieri.
