Benevento and SPAL were in Serie A in 2020, but have today been mathematically relegated to Serie C, while Bari take another step towards promotion.

There is now only one round left in the regular season, with Frosinone and Genoa already sure of their leap up to Serie A for the 2023-24 campaign.

The race for the play-off places is now all about position, but Bari have locked down third place.

The rest is between Sudtirol, Cagliari and Parma, who have all qualified for the play-offs.

As for the drop down to Serie C, Benevento and SPAL were both mathematically relegated this afternoon, while Perugia are hanging by a thread after their 3-2 defeat to Venezia.

Benevento were in Serie A in 2020-21 and are owned by one of the richest men in Italy, Oreste Vigorito, but investment failed to deliver a winning team.

SPAL had last been in the top flight in 2019-20, but since the takeover in 2021 by Donald Trump’s lawyer Joe Tacopina, they have been through a series of coaches – including Daniele De Rossi and Massimo Oddo – with disappointing results.
