The CIES Football Observatory reveals the costliest starting lineups in Serie A this season, with Juventus and Napoli on top, followed by Roma, Inter and Milan.

The Bianconeri fielded the most expensive starting XI in their 3-0 win against Sassuolo on August 15, in the opening Serie A game of the season. The value of their starting XI was €346m.

They are followed by Napoli, who lined up a team worth €268m against Hellas Verona. Roma’s starting XI against Napoli on October 23 was worth €186, followed by Inter, €187m in the Derby Della Madonnina, and Milan, €182m against Bologna.

Juventus’ ‘cheapest’ XI was in their away match against Fiorentina when the team fielded by Max Allegri was worth €238m.

The CIES Football Observatory highlights that the average transfer expenditure to assemble starting XI in SerieA this term is €83m, the second highest in Europe’s top five leagues after the Premier League’s €233m. The figures include eventual add-ons irrespective of their effective payment.
