FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio held a summit with Lega Serie A and B over the upcoming introduction of video replays.

The International Football Association Board is introducing new regulations that will allow for the use of video replays by referees during the match.

Italian Federation President Tavecchio was an enthusiastic supporter of the idea from the start, and has recently held a meeting with Maurizio Beretta from Lega Serie A, Andrea Abodi from Lega Serie B, and the president of the refereeing association Marcello Nicchi. In the meeting, the technicalities and the implications of this change were discussed, and the best ways to put it into practice for the coming season.

In agreement with the IFAB's regulations, next year the video replays will only be employed on a trial level. Two officiating referees will monitor events in the cameras and submit a report at the end of the game as to which decisions may or may not have been amended.

Video replays will not be used by referees during the match itself until the season after that, starting from September 2017.
