North Macedonia international Goran Pandev has announced his retirement after spending most of his career in Italy with the likes of Inter, Lazio, Napoli, Genoa and Parma.

The 39-year-old has decided to hang up his boots and is currently playing for Parma in Serie B.

“I look back and it doesn’t seem real… It has been an incredible journey,” wrote Pandev on Instagram.

“So many emotions, I take them all with me and know that I share them with all those who accompanied me on my path.

“I thank my family, my wife Nadica and my children Filipo, Ana, Sofia, who were my support. I thank my father and my mother for allowing me to follow this dream. I thank the people for the passion they gave me… You were magnificent.

“I thank the Branchini family, without you I would never have done all of this. I thank all my coaches and directors for their faith in me. I would love to embrace you all…

“A wonderful chapter ends… I bring with me an incredible suitcase full of emotions… I am happy to have shared them with you. With all my heart, Goran.”

Pandev first came to Italy in 2001 for the Inter youth academy, going on to represent Spezia, Ancona, Lazio, Napoli, Galatasaray, Genoa and from January 2022 Parma.

His career ends after 101 goals in 493 Serie A appearances, while there were also 11 games in Serie B and 22 in Serie C.
