A well-worked team goal finished off by Teun Koopmeiners proved enough for Atalanta to conquer Verona, but there could easily have been more.
La Dea were coming off two consecutive away defeats, but above all with Gianluca Scamacca and El Bilal Toure injured for over a month. Verona were still without Josh Doig, Jayden Braaf, Jackson Tchatchoua and Thomas Henry.
Atalanta had a strong start and broke through with a well-worked move when Ademola Lookman pulled back from the left, Marten de Roon rolled it across and the Emil Holm dummy let it through for Teun Koopmeiners to place the angled drive from the edge of the area.
Federico Bonazzoli slipped on the promising Cyril Ngonge attack, while Filippo Terracciano tried a couple of efforts from distance, then Isak Hien couldn’t keep the header down from a free kick.
Berat Djimsiti’s header went very close from a Koopmeiners free kick and De Ketelaere really should’ve made it 2-0 with a free header he somehow steered over from six yards.
Ederson also missed a big opportunity by blasting it off target relatively undisturbed.
