Verona came back from 2-0 down including an acrobatic Cyril Ngonge bicycle-kick and Lorenzo Lucca bagged a brace for Udinese, but Thomas Henry snatched a point deep into stoppages.

This was a relegation dogfight and a derby for the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, as well as Gabriele Cioffi facing his former club. The injury list for the hosts just keeps getting longer, including Jaka Bijol, Domingos Quina, Gerard Deulofeu, Brenner, Enzo Ebosse, Kingsley Ehizibue, Vivaldo Semedo and Keinan Davis. Hellas missed Isak Hien, Pawel Dawidowicz, Riccardo Saponara, Giangiacomo Magnani and Jayden Braaf, but Marco Davide Faraoni returned from his ban.

The situation immediately got worse when Isaac Success limped off with an injury after just eight minutes.

Nonetheless, Udinese took the lead when Christian Kabasele was left completely unmarked at the back post to slide on to the Lazar Samardzic free kick.

The Friulani doubled their lead as Roberto Pereyra’s cross from the left found substitute Lorenzo Lucca to spring the offside trap against static Verona defenders, free to flick in off the outside of the boot.

However, Kabasele charged down the Cyril Ngonge strike with his arm, allowing Milan Djuric to convert the penalty low and hard into the bottom corner.

Verona came out fighting for the restart and completed the comeback in real style with a spectacular Ngonge bicycle kick from the Tomas Suslov cross.

Lorenzo Montipò used his knee to parry a Pereyra strike at the far post on a corner, but Udinese did restore their advantage with a towering Lucca header on the Florian Thauvin cross from the left, hanging in the air for an age.

Sandi Lovric really should’ve sealed it moments later when robbing Bruno Amione, but then turned wide of the empty net.

Darko Lazovic tried to win a penalty for Verona, but visibly ran straight into Walace, then Thauvin’s low curler from the edge of the area bounced off the upright.

It wasn’t over, as deep into stoppages Marco Silvestri flapped at thin air on the Ngonge cross and substitute Thomas Henry flew for the glancing header. It was his first goal for 15 months after a long lay-off for a serious knee injury.

Udinese 3-3 Verona

Kabasele 16 (U), Lucca 30, 72 (U), Djuric pen 36 (V), Ngonge 61 (V), Henry 97 (V)
