Udinese got the job done early to crush Cremonese 3-0 before half-time with goals from Lazar Samardzic, Nehuen Perez and Isaac Success.
The visitors suddenly blew the relegation battle wide open with back-to-back wins over Sampdoria and Empoli, so were fired up at the Dacia Arena. The hosts remain without Gerard Deulofeu and Enzo Ebosse for the rest of the season, with Beto still not 100 per cent.
It took under two minutes to break the deadlock, as Lazar Samardzic steered a remarkable finish into the far bottom corner from the edge of the box, taking a wicked swerve off the outside of his left boot.
Frank Tsadjout failed to make the most of an Emanuele Valeri pull-back at the near post and when Destiny Udogie gathered a Roberto Pereyra cross to beat on-rushing Marco Carnesecchi, his goal was denied by Leonardo Sernicola almost on the line.
Carnesecchi did get his gloves to a Sandi Lovric header at the back post, while Cyril Dessers thumped the base of the upright, although it would’ve been disallowed for offside because Cristian Buonaiuto had to get out of the way of the ball.
Instead, Udinese doubled their lead with Nehuen Perez rising to meet the Lovric free kick with his head from close range.
Isaac Success finally got his first goal of the Serie A season, at the 34th attempt, springing the offside trap on a long ball to sprint away from defenders and sweep in off the inside of the far post.
Carnesecchi parried the Kingsley Ehizibue effort at the near stick and Buonaiuto’s header flashed just wide of the near post with Marco Silvestri beaten.
Beto stung Carnesecchi’s gloves following Emanuel Aiwu’s error, then turned inches wide as he was at full stretch to reach Tolgay Arslan’s cross.
