Albert Gudmundsson turned on the style with an historic brace for Genoa, but a comical Alan Matturro own goal in stoppages gifted Udinese a point.

The Grifone were coming off a shock 4-1 win over Roma on Thursday evening, but Milan Badelj, Kevin Strootman and Stefano Sabelli didn’t make the trip due to injury, while Aaron Martin returned from suspension. Udinese were still without a victory and the absentee list included Kingsley Ehizibue, Enzo Ebosse, Gerard Deulofeu, Brenner, Christian Kabasele and Vivaldo Semedo.

It was the first fixture here since the rename from Dacia Arena to Bluenergy Stadium, but the first goal came from Genoa.

Marco Silvestri misplaced a pass when trying to play out from the back right to Morten Frendrup, who found Albert Gudmundsson for an unstoppable screamer into the roof of the net from outside the box.

Udinese tried to fight back, Johan Vasquez making a decisive block on Roberto Pereyra’s strike from 12 yards, then equalised with Lorenzo Lucca’s debut Serie A goal.

Ridgeciano Haps tried to clear the Hassane Kamara cross from the left, but accidentally set it up perfectly for Lucca to control and score on the volley from 12 yards.

Gudmundsson had the ball in the net again four minutes later with a low left-foot strike, but the goal was disallowed due to an earlier Haps offside in the build-up.

Ruslan Malinovskyi’s ferocious touched-on free kick drilled just wide of the near post, then Gudmundsson did get his second goal of the match.

Mateo Retegui controlled a long Malinovskyi ball over the top and laid it off for his teammate, whose shot took a deflection off Thomas Kristensen to wrong-foot Silvestri.

Jordan Zemura took too long to get a cross under control and was closed down at the back post, while Jaka Bijol’s header was smothered from a corner.

Festy Ebosele was brought down mere inches outside the penalty area by Haps, from which Lazar Samardzic’s free kick hit the side-netting. Samardzic had not been in the starting XI after suffering from flu symptoms.

Gudmundsson almost completed a hat-trick on 75 minutes, his inside of the boot effort from the edge of the box beaten away by Silvestri.

Lucca at full stretch couldn’t redirect the Sandi Lovric ball over the top, but Udinese were gifted the equaliser in stoppages. Nehuen Perez flicked on the Samardzic corner and it bounced into the net off the head of Genoa defender Alan Matturro.

Udinese were suddenly pushing for the victory, but then went down to 10 men, as Lovric was shown a straight red card for his awful scissor-motion foul from behind on Junior Messias.

Udinese 2-2 Genoa

Gudmundsson 14, 41 (G), Lucca 23 (U), Matturro og 91 (U)
