Serie A Highlights: Udinese 1-1 Lazio

The Aquile had Ciro Immobile still out through illness, Luis Alberto and Lucas Leiva suspended, Francesco Acerbi and Manuel Lazzari injured, plus fatigue set in after Thursday’s Europa League 2-1 defeat away to FC Porto.

It was the perfect start for the hosts, as a corner was not cleared, Nahuel Molina’s cross was knocked down by Nehuen Perez for Gerard Deulofeu to sweep in within five minutes.

Jean-Victor Makengo somehow failed to make it 2-0 on 17 minutes with an extraordinary miss, as Deulofeu pulled back from the by-line and he incredibly turned it over the bar from a couple of yards out.

The evening got even worse for Lazio, as Pedro limped off with a swollen foot, giving Jovane Cabral his Serie A debut. He made an impression, within a few minutes drawing a very risky Rodrigo Becao challenge in the box, then firing wide after a smart Elseid Hysaj ball over the top.

Pablo Marì made a decisive interception to stop Jovane tapping in the Felipe Anderson ball squared from six yards.

Lazio equalised in first half stoppages, as Danilo Cataldi’s free kick was flicked on by Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for Felipe Anderson’s free header at the back post. It was his first Serie A goal since October 16.

Straight after the restart, Jovane Cabral side-footed wide after a strong run from Felipe Anderson, while Thomas Strakosha got down to palm a Becao cross away from Brandon Soppy.

Roberto Pereyra made his comeback three months after surgery for a dislocated collarbone. Mattia Zaccagni’s curler was not far off the top corner, while Felipe Anderson showed a great work-rate to track back and stop Makengo meeting a pull-back and Strakosha flew to palm away Makengo’s scorcher.

Felipe Anderson wasted a golden opportunity on the counter-attack, instead of going for goal, he tried to roll across for Milinkovic-Savic.

It was Udinese who thought they’d won it in the final seconds of injury time, but Molina’s absolute screamer from a tricky angle beat Strakosha to cannon off the crossbar.
