Fiorentina now have a confirmed goal-scoring problem, as they were beaten 1-0 by Udinese thanks to Beto and a defensive error.

The Viola had played three consecutive 0-0 draws between Serie A and the Conference League play-offs, with injuries piling up for Giacomo Bonaventura, Nico Gonzalez, Alfred Duncan and Gaetano Castrovilli. Udinese had Nehuen Perez suspended following the 2-1 win away to Monza.

It was a curious family affair, because Udinese coach Andrea Sottil is the father of Fiorentina winger Riccardo.

Watch the highlights here.

Beto’s first touch let him down when Gerard Deulofeu sent him clear on goal after a Lucas Martinez Quarta error, but he didn’t make the same mistake twice.

Fiorentina claimed Deulofeu fouled Lorenzo Venuti to win it back near the corner flag and set up Beto for the goal, but VAR agreed the defender had simply been caught napping.

Beto flicked the ball on with his head to send himself on the counter, but was denied one-on-one by Pietro Terracciano.

Marco Silvestri made a sensational save on the Martinez Quarta bullet header from a corner, while Arthur Cabral just failed to connect his diving header to another set play.

Roberto Pereyra blasted over after good work from Destiny Udogie and Deulofeu on the counter, then Deulofeu himself forced Terracciano to palm over the bar.

Udinese had the ball in the net again in stoppages with Isaac Success sent clear by Udogie, but it was ruled offside.

Udinese 1-0 Fiorentina
