Cremonese wasted a golden opportunity to win their first Serie A game this season, seeing Torino’s Wilfried Singo level the score minutes after Emanuele Valeri’s goal in the second half.
Davide Ballardini’s side earned one point against the Granata at the Stadio Grande Torino on Monday, but remain with no victories in Serie A this season.
Ivan Juric’s side dominated the first half and had two clear-cut chances before Antonio Sanabria’s opener from the spot.
The Paraguay international had previously wasted a through pass from Aleksei Miranchuk, forcing Marco Carnesecchi to a save, while Yann Karamoh sent his shot from inside the box over the bar after squeezing past the Grigiorossi defenders.
The Granata put their noses ahead minutes before the break when Sanabria converted a spot kick earned by Ivan Ilic for a foul of Leonardo Sernicola.
The second half was very different. Ballardini introduced former Roma starlet Felix-Afena Gyan for Soualiho Meite during the break, making Cremonese more attacking-minded.
Frank Tsadjout levelled the score at minute 54, Afena-Gyan won possession inside the box and the 23-year-old found the net at the far post with a right-footed curler. Less than 20 minutes later, Valeri put Cremonese ahead with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, but the Neroverdi’s lead didn’t last long.
Juric also made a decisive substitution by throwing in Singo, who dribbled past a Cremonese defender inside the box, beating Carnesecchi at the near post.
The Italian keeper denied Sanabria in the stoppages, helping Cremonese earn one point, although the Grigiorossi return home with a bitter taste in their mouth given that they remain rock bottom of the Serie A table with only nine points.
Torino, on the other hand, are one point below seventh-placed Juventus ahead of next week’s derby della Mole at the Allianz Stadium.
