Milan suffered a shock defeat away to Torino, conceding two goals in two minutes, and their Junior Messias strike was extremely controversial too.

The Rossoneri had won their last four Serie A games and were fresh from a 4-0 Champions League victory away to Dinamo Zagreb, welcoming Brahim Diaz back from injury, but still missing Mike Maignan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Davide Calabria, Alexis Saelemaekers and Alessandro Florenzi. Toro earned a shock 2-1 win away to Udinese last week, ending a run of one point from five games, but Antonio Sanabria and Ola Aina were out of action.

Watch the highlights here.

Twice in the opening five minutes, Rafael Leao was sent clear on goal by Brahim Diaz passes, but twice he horribly scuffed the finish.

Pietro Pellegri threatened his former club with a ferocious strike at the near post that stung Ciprian Tatarusanu’s gloves, then on the resulting corner Perr Schuurs fired straight at the goalkeeper from 14 yards.

Leao ballooned another promising position and Milan were made to pay for those errors with a sudden flurry from the hosts.

First a free kick was floated onto the head of Koffi Djidji to steer it into the far bottom corner, without even needing to jump.

Within 120 seconds it was 2-0, as Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s long clearance was knocked down by Pellegri and flicked on by Nikola Vlasic for Aleksei Miranchuk’s angled drive across Tatarusanu.

Divock Origi’s first touch let him down on a Junior Messias through ball, so Stefano Pioli took drastic action with a triple substitution at half-time, hauling off Rafael Leao too.

Ante Rebic whipped a ball across the face of goal just beyond Origi sliding in, then Sergino Dest blasted not far over the bar from outside the box.

Alessandro Buongiorno nodded over from a free kick, but Milan got back into the game in chaotic and controversial circumstances.

Sandro Tonali placed a long ball over the top and Vanja Milinkovic-Savic came flying outside the box at completely the wrong time, but Messias seemed to push Buongiorno out of the way to fire into the empty net. Toro coach Ivan Juric was sent off for his protests and VAR did not intervene.
