Torino rose to an impressive 2-1 victory over Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta in Serie A on Sunday, largely thanks to a goal and assist from Che Adams on his full debut. Mateo Retegui’s early opener was soon cancelled out by Ivan Ilic.

Check out the player ratings from Sunday’s entertaining spectacle in Turin.

Torino 2-1 Atalanta – player ratings

Torino: Milinkovic-Savic 8; Tameze 6, Coco 7, Massina 6; Vojvoda 6, Ricci 6, Linetty 6, Ilic 7, Lazaro 5; Adams 8, Zapata 7.

Best Torino player: Che Adams – 8: The Scotland international marked his full Serie A debut with a goal and an assist. Paolo Vanoli couldn’t have asked for too much more than that prior to kick-off. Adams provided a real threat on the counter-attack, and was always prepared to run off the shoulders of the Atalanta defence. He showed he has plenty of speed to burn, but with Premier League and Championship experience with Southampton and Birmingham, he does not shy away from physical battles either. Vanja Milinkovic-Savic also comes away with the same rating after a series of big stops, the most important of which was the match-winning penalty save in injury time.

Coach: Paolo Vanoli – 7 Torino were excellent on the break, which really played to new signing Che Adams’s strengths. Though they were bright, there is still room for improvement for Toro, who were helped by a few wonderful saves from Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. Atalanta also rattled the woodwork on a number of occasions, so there is probably still a bit of work to be done on the defensive side of things.

Atalanta: Carnesecchi 6; Djimsiti 5.5, Hien 6, De Roon 5; Zappacosta 6, Pasalic 6, Ederson 5.5, Ruggeri 6; Brescianini 5; De Ketelaere 6.5, Retegui 7.5

Best Atalanta player: Mateo Retegui – 7.5: The Argentine-born Italy international is now the outright top goalscorer in Serie A with three after two matches. His header today was a traditional centre-forward’s goal, rising highest in the area to nod in an enticing Davide Zappacosta cross. Though it wasn’t Atalanta’s best display ever, Retegui also looked a threat in the opposition penalty area. Signing him to replace his international colleague Gianluca Scamacca may be one of the most sensible bits of business from any team in the division this summer.

Coach: Gian Piero Gasperini – 5: After a thumping 4-0 victory over Lecce last time out, Gasperini effectively went for the same team. Marco Carnesecchi in for Juan Musso, who is set to join Atletico Madrid, was the only change. Providing continuity after a big win was probably the sensible decision, but Atalanta could have perhaps benefitted from some fresh ideas in the middle of the park. Lazar Samardzic looked promising when he came on, and will surely challenge for a starting spot in the near future.
