A ferocious Aleksey Miranchuk long-range strike allowed Torino to avoid defeat, as Milan Djuric’s header lets Verona end their 10-game losing streak.

The Granata opened 2023 without suspended Alessandro Buongiorno, injured Pietro Pellegri, Ola Aina, Wilfried Singo and Emirhan Ilkhan. Hellas ended 2022 rock bottom after a club record 10 consecutive defeats, missing Marco Davide Faraoni with Kevin Lasagna not fully fit.

Nikola Vlasic seemed surprised a corner reached him and the first touch was therefore poor, then Sasa Lukic had a shot charged down.

Verona took the lead with practically their first chance of the game right on the stroke of half-time, as Milan Djuric towered above the crowd to nod in a Darko Lazovic corner kick.

Djuric threatened a second after the restart, his low drive deflected wide, and Fabio Depaoli couldn’t steer his free header on target.

Toro finally got their equaliser with a moment of sheer magic, as Aleksey Miranchuk unleashed a ground to air missile from outside the box into the top corner that was simply unstoppable.

Verona should’ve restored their advantage moments later, but somehow Lazovic turned a free header wide at the back post from Josh Doig’s cross.

Torino wasted a massive chance to win with the last kick of the game, as Lorenzo Montipò misjudged the flight of Valentin Lazaro’s cross and somehow Lukic sent the free header wide.

Torino 1-1 Verona

Djuric 45 (V), Miranchuk 64 (V)
