Serie A | Torino 1-1 Inter: Sanchez snatches point amid controversy

Gleison Bremer gave Torino the lead and Andrea Belotti was denied what seemed to be a clear penalty, but Alexis Sanchez rescued a point for Inter in stoppages.

Serie A Highlights: Torino 1-1 Inter

The Nerazzurri had to do without Marcelo Brozovic and Stefan de Vrij just days after their Champions League exit, despite winning 1-0 away to Liverpool. The pressure was on to keep up with leaders Milan, while Toro missed Dennis Praet, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Ola Aina, Pietro Pellegri, Mohamed Fares and David Zima.

Etrit Berisha plucked an Edin Dzeko strike out of the top corner, but Toro took the lead when Tommaso Pobega knocked down a curling corner and Bremer tapped in from four yards.

Andrea Belotti forced a save out of Samir Handanovic moments later, but Berisha did even better with a reaction save on Lautaro Martinez’s header from close range on a free kick.

Hakan Calhanoglu’s free kick went past everyone and was heading into the far bottom corner until another desperate Berisha save.

There was controversy on 37 minutes when Andrea Ranocchia clearly caught Belotti’s foot on the way through to get the ball. The referee waved play on, but the surprise is that VAR did not even suggest an on-field review, as it seemed to be a clear penalty.

Rolando Mandragora hit a scorcher just wide from outside the box on the stroke of half-time, as Toro were in control.

Robin Gosens and Federico Dimarco were introduced for the second half and made a difference, as Vecino nodded a Dimarco free kick over the bar.

Koffi Djidji went off with a hamstring strain, Dimarco stung Berisha’s gloves on a Dzeko assist and the Bosnian turned a free header wide on Vecino’s cross from the right.

Torino had two massive chances to double their lead on the hour mark. First Josip Brekalo went on a strong run from the left to cut inside, eventually denied by a desperate Gosens block in the six-yard box, then on the resulting corner Armando Izzo’s header was palmed away by Handanovic.

Berisha got away with fumbling a cross, as Gosens turned over the empty net, while Arturo Vidal stung Berisha’s gloves and in the final minutes Dzeko turned a free header over from four yards.

Pobega almost got a second in stoppages, his header wide at the back post from Brekalo’s cross.

However, as we’ve seen so many times in recent years, Torino conceded a late goal to drop points. Juric was furious with Antonio Sanabria for losing it cheaply and from that move Dzeko laid it off for Alexis Sanchez’s angled drive, which went into the far bottom corner despite Berisha getting something on it.
