Lega Serie A President Lorenzo Casini announces there will be games played on December 30, 2023 and they are progressing in talks to find investment funds for the league.

Despite their good results in this season’s Champions League, Europa League and Conference League tournaments, Serie A clubs are still a long way behind their counterparts in terms of financing.

A lot of that is to do with the structure of Serie A, so many of the clubs are pushing to bring in investment funds, although some remain against the idea.

“We have asked to find a financial advisor who can help evaluate the proposals that we have received,” said Casini after the Lega Serie A meeting this morning.

“We will evaluate both financing and private equity offers, there are some who prefer one over the other.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport report there are currently nine proposals on the table and a financial consultant will be chosen at the next meeting on April 24.

Serie A is also trying to progress with the idea of creating its own radio station, while the auction for the sale of TV rights will be published in May.

The current campaign was turned inside out to make way for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, played in November and December, but there are still knock-on effects for next season.

Casini confirmed rather than the traditional Christmas break, there will be a round of Serie A games played on December 30.

“We chose this rather than Boxing Day, as the fans want to experience football events during that period too. Serie A has little room to manoeuvre when it comes to the fixture list, but that date was voted for unanimously.”
