As the Viola go top and Carpi win their first Serie A game Dave Taylor selects his top XI from Week 7.

Samir Handanovic [Inter]

Called on early with several goal attempts from Samp but dealt with them efficiently. Always alert , and though he could perhaps could have done better on the goal, without him Inter would surely have not come away with a point. Inspiring.

Pedro Pereira [Sampdoria]

Samir Handanovic [Inter]

Called on early with several goal attempts from Samp but dealt with them efficiently. Always alert , and though he could perhaps could have done better on the goal, without him Inter would surely have not come away with a point. Inspiring.

Pedro Pereira [Sampdoria]

The Portuguese 17-year-old has settled in very well with Samp and caused Inter several problems. It was from his cross that Luis Muriel scored and his constant running into the opposition’s half had Inter’s left flank continually occupied with defending. Positive.

Ervin Zukanovic [Sampdoria]

Stood firm in the centre of defence, he was immoveable and closed down Mauro Icardi et al with few problems. Always ready to help out teammates with his determination and once he tackled, you stayed tackled. Essential.

Vangelis Moras [Verona]

The veteran set the tone early and at 6ft 4 was dominant in the air and on the ground. Like a maternally crazed gorilla, he rescued a couple of his teammates with his experience when they lost their way. Industrious.

Faouzi Ghoulam [Napoli]

Was always a release out on the left flank and contributed to the attack but never forgot his defensive duties. It was from his cross that Rodrigo Ely deflected into his own net. Vital.

Alessandro Florenzi [Roma]

Worked magnificently in tandem with Pjanic and his sublime assist preceded his goal when the pair worked together to set up another effort by Pjanic, whose fluffed shot turned into an assist for the Italian. Inspirational.

Miralem Pjanic [Roma]

In terms of discoveries it’s not exactly the Higgs boson yet undoubtedly the Bosnian gets better as time goes by. This time round he produced an assist and Serie A’s fastest goal after a delightful one-two with Florenzi. Decisive.

Lorenzo Insigne [Napoli]

Another sublime performance as he set up Allan for the opener before scoring after a clever give-and-go with Gonzalo Higuain. If that was stupendous his imperial freekick that bent over the wall before crashing into the net was peerless. Precious.

Gabriel Silva [Carpi]

The 24-year-old Brazilian was an always outlet with his pace down the left flank. Unafraid to have a shot he narrowly missed with a half volley before his next effort bounced off the post and in off the ‘keeper’s shoulder. Comprehensive.

Gervinho [Roma]

His appreciation of teammates’ movement saw him score a brilliant brace. He also had a narrow miss with a sublime back heel effort on the spin that hit the crossbar. Indispensable.

Alvaro Morata [Juventus]

Absolutely everywhere menacing, worrying and cutting through the opposition like an anteater through a termite mound, scoring a header while having a massive hand in the other two, winning a penalty and crossing for Sami Khedira to head home. Positive.

Special Mentions: Ryder Pinto Matos [Fiorentina] Borja Valero [Fiorentina], Sami Khedira [Juventus], Allan [Napoli], Gonzalo Higuain [Napoli], Mario Rui [Empoli].
