Eros Pisano [Verona]
Capped an all-round energetic performance with a cracking last minute header to earn Verona a share of the points. Although a real danger man in attack down the flank, he never allowed it to interrupt his masterclass in defending. Direct.
Emiliano Moretti [Torino]
Totally in control he made the job look easy. Aware of his teammates at all times, he set up several attacks and made an extremely crucial sliding tackle on Eder to block his shot at the very end. Responsive.
Giampaolo Bellini [Atalanta]
Was a powerhouse down the left flank and not afraid to join in the attack either. With his pressure on the visitors he was always ahead of the game and until the late equaliser remained fairly undisturbed. Prominent.
Bruno Peres [Torino]
What Yehudi Menuhin used to do with a Stradivarius the Brazilian did with the ball, pushing, pressing and probing the Samp defence. Continually questioning, he first set up Fabio Quagliarella for the opener before his own Exocet skinned the bar. Excellent.
Oscar Hiljemark [Palermo]
Always alert, he seized on a mistake from Milan’s ‘keeper to head home the first of two goals. Then, following a perfect Alberto Gilardino pass, he left Diego Lopez as red as a baboon’s backside again, as he rounded him to slot home. Attentive.
Lorenzo Insigne [Napoli]
Stitched the midfield onto the forward line and with a metronomic frequency did not miss a heartbeat. Made a fabulously accurate assist for Allan’s goal and capped a truly magnificent performance with a special goal of his own. Committed.
Mohammed Salah [Roma]
Tested the Sassuolo ‘keeper on numerous occasions and was rewarded with his first goal, a left-footed volley. Also severely bamboozled defenders leaving them with a job as difficult as tracing the dissolution of muskrat faeces in sediment. Remarkable.
Jack Bonaventura [Milan]
It was an all round top game from the Italian midfielder, which started with his perfect assist for the opener. The international kept up the pressure before scoring the second goal after winning a free-kick and converting it. Questioning.
Carlos Bacca [Milan]
The Colombian was soon into his stride causing problems from the off and was eventually rewarded with a fine brace. His first was turned in with a neat flick while his second saw him forcefully head home. Powerful.
Gonzalo Higuain [Napoli]
Opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a fierce shot that cannoned home. Continued to menace, and set up Insigne’s goal after beating two defenders then scored a second, beating two defenders again before snapping past Federico Marchetti again. Unstoppable.
Special Mentions: Francesco Totti [Roma], Juan Cuadrado [Juventus] Lorenzo Insigne [Napoli] Allan [Napoli], Fabio Quagliarella [Torino], Matteo Politano [Sassuolo], Luca Rossettini [Bologna].
