After another exciting weekend in Serie A with the top two both winning, Dave Taylor selects his best XI from Week 28

Vid Belec [Carpi]

Helped win a valuable point for the visitors and made several cracking saves to keep the scores level. In particular he palmed away a fierce strike from Saphir Taider then later performed an acrobatic save to stop Emanuele Giaccherini’s effort hitting the net. Impressive.

Cristian Zaccardo [Carpi]

The Captain showed from the start why he continues to play at the top level and made several strong and telling interceptions throughout the game to stop the hosts causing problems when and if they ever made it into his area. Crucial.

Kostas Manolas [Roma]

Marked Nicola Kalinic out of the game and had a comparatively easy match due to always being in the right position to stop any attacks from Fiorentina. Tough in the tackle and led the defence well. Effervescent.

Andrea Barzagli [Juventus]

The veteran commanded the centre of defence and showed his awareness when he intercepted a ball meant for Jasmin Kurtic. The match winner showed even more awareness when he found space in the area from a corner to poke the ball home for a first goal in almost four years. Powerful.

Kalidou Koulibaly [Napoli]

Forced all the issues down the left, putting in crosses, pushing the opposition attack backwards, and continually giving his teammates much more space on his flank. It was from one of his many crosses that Gonzalo Higuain scored the vital equaliser. Terrific.

Oliver Kragl [Frosinone]

The German was a real workhorse making some dangerous runs and crosses. Showed with a smart volley in the first minute he meant business and kept up goal attempts throughout with only a great save at the end stopping him scoring. Inexhaustible.

Miralem Pjanic [Roma]

Was all over the pitch, always making the right choice to cause maximum damage leaving the visiting defence as confused as Adam and Eve on Mother’s day. It was his glorious ball over the top that set up Mohamed Salah. Decisive.

Adem Ljajic [Inter]

Scored the opener and made chances for his teammates with his runs into the box and had a big hand in the third goal. He was forever getting into good positions to receive and release the ball. Alert.

Mohamed Salah [Roma]

It was another busy day for the Egyptian with an assist and a brace. His first goal saw his shot deflected past a luckless Ciprian Tatarusanu while his second saw him latch onto Pjanic’s smart ball to coolly nutmeg the helpless ‘keeper again. Electric.

Stephan El Shaarawy [Roma]

Always in the thick of things, the Pharaoh rocked up ready to wreak havoc again scoring his fifth Roma goal and also producing an assist. His goal came when a smart ball from Salah allowed him to slot home from six yards. Dynamic.

Gonzalo Higuain [Napoli]

It looks like Pipita is back and he scored the vital early equaliser and was involved in all Napoli’s best attacking moves throughout and could have scored perhaps even more if not for some good defending. Skilful

Special mentions: Diego Perotti [Roma], Antonio Cassano [Sampdoria], Andrea Belotti [Torino], Leonardo Blanchard [Frosinone], Mauri Icardi [Inter] Ivan Perisic [Inter] Sami Khedira [Juventus].
