Whilst the fixtures turn themselves around next week, Dave Taylor selects his best XI from Week 19.

Samir Handanovic [Inter]

Had to be awake from the start saving from an Elseid Hysaj drive. Later rescued Inter again when pulling off two superb saves from Manuel Pucciarelli and was also alert enough to palm away a later strike from Piotr Zielinski. Solid.

Solid.

Elseid Hysaj [Empoli]

Dominated the right flank with an energy that saw him halt any Inter attacks down his side. Got up field on several occasions and tested Samir Handanovic early on and almost scored again later in the game. Subjugating.

Lorenzo Tonelli [Empoli]

Never put a foot wrong and made Mauro Icardi look as potent as pre-Viagra pensioner. Conquered in the air and on the ground, clearing up forward balls with ease and causing the odd problem up field. Dominating.

Raul Albiol [Napoli]

Was a complete rock at the centre of defence and despite Lazio creating several opportunities he never allowed anyone to bypass him. His superiority over the Lazio forwards and partnership with Kalidou Koulibaly made it a safe afternoon for Napoli. Absolute.

Ivan Strinic [Napoli]

Made a splendid debut and completely annulled Antonio Candreva. The Croatian new boy was also full of running and seemed to know his role with and without the ball. In short his introduction could not have gone much better. Impressive.

Domenico Berardi [Sassuolo]

Scoring once in both halves he also devastated the hosts’ left flank. After 18 minutes he won and converted a penalty then saw Mattia Perin charge down another effort before finding himself perfectly placed to side-foot home his second. Inspiring.

Paul Pogba [Juventus]

Showed with his twists, turns and false starts that he is a footballer designed in the offices of Machiavelli and the Marquis de Sade. Scored with a whiplash of a goal from distance and was always ready for action. Extraordinary.

Allan [Udinese]

The complete central midfielder tidied up in front of the back four and pushed and prompted his forwards. Scored the all-important equaliser with a breathtaking individual effort that saw him dodge a few tackles before smashing the ball home. Awesome.

Kevin Strootman [Roma]

Back in the team and back in top form, the Dutchman’s header was the perfect assist for Mattia Destro’s goal. Was the liveliest wire in Roma’s side and whipped in more crosses than a priest in a Hammer Vampire film. Vigorous.

Carlos Tevez [Juventus]

Scored twice, making it look easy and was a nightmare for the Verona ‘keeper. Forever pushing forward and like a Marxist at a Nietzschean convention, highlighted problems in the opposition’s defensive philosophy all night. Herculean.

Franco Brienza [Cesena]

Stood out for the hosts and thoroughly deserved his two goals with his first coming from a penalty that he won. He then almost scored twice again before eventually scoring his second spot-kick with an exquisite ‘cucchiaio .’ Prominent.
