Stopping everything Torino could throw at him, he was especially alert to palm away an Omar El Kaddouri curler away. He also denied El Kaddouri’s penalty as well as blocking a close range Fabio Quagliarella shot. Authoritative.
Stephan Lichtsteiner [Juventus” data-scaytid=”8″>Juventus]
He seems to have adapted very well to his new position and worked tirelessly down the right flank. Never got as far forward as usual but had the discipline to stick to his role and kept Keita Balde Daio quiet. Commanding.
Philippe Mexes [Milan]
As the Milan captain he led the line at the back with authority and snuffed out even the slightest danger from Mauro Icardi. Used his strength to rebuff Milan’s attacks and was not subtle about it either. Unyielding.
Gonzalo Rodriguez [Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”13″>Fiorentina]
Dependable at the back, dangerous up front and scored the first goal with a simple tap-in from close up. Almost scored another soon after this time from a header and was always a rock in defence. Excellent.
Marcos Alonso [Fiorentina]
Continually caused problems down the left flank yet never ignored his defensive duties. Set up both Fiorentina’s goals, the first a perfect header from a corner while his second was an excellent cross for Juan Cuadrado. Exceptional.
Radja Nainggolan [Roma]
The Belgian left the Oribici defence as inconclusive and erroneous as a FIFA summary. Put in a lot of effort, making retrievals and setting up attacks before scoring a well worked goal. Exciting.
Adem Ljajic [Roma]
More offensive than the England Fans’ band as his constant running and probing opened up a sore point in the Atalanta defence. The Man of the Match also scored a magnificent equaliser and produced the assist for the second goal. Outstanding.
Andrea Pirlo [Juventus]
What can you say about Il Maestro that hasn’t been said before? Always creative and his splendid assist for Pogba’s second saw him become as popular with the Lazio defence as Sepp Blatter at the 2012 women’s Olympics final. Impeccable.
Paul Pogba [Juventus]
The young Frenchman smashed his way through the Biancocelesti defence time and time again. Playing blistering football throughout, the game’s top man scored twice and would have had a hat trick but for the woodwork. Exhilarating.
Diego Farias [Cagliari]
Always busy and caused several problems down Napoli’s right before scoring the second goal with a header at the far post. Scored the equaliser when finding space inside the area to slip the ball home from eight yards out. Dangerous.
Carlos Tevez [Juventus]
Like Frank Sinatra’s ‘My way’ at funerals, he was everywhere and produced a devastating assist for the opener. Continued to cause problems before stealing in for a perfect goal finding space and time to whip the ball home. Tireless.
