With Roma taking back over at the top as the contenders gather close behind, Dave Taylor selects his top XI from Week 10.

Gianluca Pegolo [Sassuolo]

The veteran was on top form, first finger-tipping a fierce long-range Paul Pogba missile away. It was the same again in the second half, with Pogba, Juan Cuadrado and Hernanes all testing the 34-year-old, who played his part in the clean sheet. Convincing.

Maicon [Roma]

With Roma taking back over at the top as the contenders gather close behind, Dave Taylor selects his top XI from Week 10.

Gianluca Pegolo [Sassuolo]

The veteran was on top form, first finger-tipping a fierce long-range Paul Pogba missile away. It was the same again in the second half, with Pogba, Juan Cuadrado and Hernanes all testing the 34-year-old, who played his part in the clean sheet. Convincing.

Maicon [Roma]

The Brazilian looked back to the majestic Maicon of yesteryear as he strode through the game, producing the assist for Miralem Pjanic’s opener. Soon after he flew down the right and squeezed in a strike of his own. Authorative.

Paolo Cannavaro [Sassuolo]

Along with defensive partner Francesco Acerbi, the ex-Napoli defender put a firm marker down with his tackles and instinctive clearances before the Juve forwards got even half a chance. Forceful.

Raul Albiol [Napoli]

Read the game well and was always alert to any danger before it progressed too far to halt. Stood tall, sturdy and made sure the Palermo strikers could not get any sort of foothold on the game. Dynamic.

Lucas Digne [Roma]

Contributed a lot to the Giallorossi attack with his swift forays down the left and his running caused all sorts of problems. Rarely caught out of position and never ever neglected his defensive duties. Energetic.

Alejandro Gomez [Atalanta]

The Argentinian midfielder was at the heart of all the best that the Orobici were involved in and menaced throughout the game. First his cross set up Dusan Basta’s own goal before he scored a superb winner. Dangerous.

Miralem Pjanic [Roma]

Once again at the heart the Giallorossi attack, he opened the scoring when he collected a Maicon cross and whipped a strike into the bottom right hand corner. Continued to cause problems and is the player of the season so far. Comprehensive.

Marek Hamsik [Napoli]

Showed how a captain should play with his leadership and inspiration for all to see. It was from his ball that Gonzalo Higuain scored and the Slovakian ace continued to be at the core of all the best movement from Napoli. Commanding.

Diego Laxalt [Genoa]

A top performance from the midfielder, which saw him, score the opener by being in the right place to head into an empty net. He also scored at the death with a flying header to clinch the draw. Vital.

Gonzalo Higuain [Napoli]

Showed his class and timing and worried the Palermo defence many times and could have scored a hat-trick. Finally rewarded when his unstoppable Exocet from the edge of the area screamed into the bottom right hand corner. Vibrant.

Federico Dionisi [Frosinone]

The best of the hosts’ action went through the 28-year-old and he set up both goals. The first saw him neatly flick a back heel for Daniel Ciofani’s opener then the winner for Paolo Sammarco. Complete.

Special Mentions: Giacomo Bonaventura [Milan], Francesco Maganelli [Sassuolo], Marek Hamsik [Napoli], Eder [Sampdoria], Leonardo Pavoletti, [Genoa] Gervinho [Roma].
