With 11 Serie A rounds left to play, the Scudetto race is wide open as there are only eight points separating the top five teams.

The Week 27 fixtures made the situation even more uncertain than it already was before, as Inter and Napoli drew 1-1 in their head-to-head battle at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Atalanta also stalled with a 0-0 against Venezia, leaving the door open for Juventus and Lazio to close the gap with late victories over Verona and Milan respectively.

It means Juve are now within six points of leaders Inter and perhaps have to be considered a Scudetto contender, especially as they are out of both the Champions League and Coppa Italia, so have no other competitions to focus on.

The same is true now of Napoli and Atalanta, whereas Inter are still in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia semi-finals, while Lazio have Europa League commitments.

When it comes to the race for European qualification, it has been a devastating run of results for Milan, who after three consecutive defeats are stuck in ninth place, leapfrogged by Claudio Ranieri’s Roma.

  1. Great title races in Italy and Spain.
The mythical “competitive” epl, on the other hand, was over at both ends of the table in February.
