Serie A will be shown live on ESPN in the United States of America, after the league and broadcaster reached a “multi-year deal”.

The Italian top flight has fallen behind in domestic television revenues, with a €1bn compromise deal agreed between Sky and SportMediaset after the deal with Mediapro was rejected by competition authorities.

That means Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga both have more lucrative domestic television deals at around €1.1bn each, while the Premier League is well out in front at €5.73bn.

There is some good news for Serie A though, as a deal has now been struck with U.S broadcaster ESPN.

Described as a “multi-year rights agreement”, ESPN and ESPN+ will show close to 40 matches per season, with Chievo vs Juventus on the opening day as the first live match.
