Marko Arnautovic bagged a brace to give Bologna another draw away to Spezia, but Simone Bastoni scored one and accidentally set up the Jerdy Schouten own goal for 2-2.

The pressure was on Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men after two points from four rounds, and he finally had a full squad to choose from, including new signing Joshua Zirkzee on the bench. Spezia missed Daniel Maldini, Kelvin Amian and Salvo Ferrer.

M’Bala Nzola forced a save at the near post in the opening seconds of the match, soon followed at the other end by Riccardo Orsolini.

Marko Arnautovic put Bologna in front when he ran onto a Gary Medel ball over the top, shrugged off the goalkeeper and turned in from a tight angle, despite Petko Hristov’s attempts to clear off the line.

Arnautovic got into the box again and Bartlomiej Dragowski came tearing out to meet the ball, accidentally clattering the striker in the face with an arm as he got there first.

Simone Bastoni equalised with a long-range left-foot strike for Spezia into the near bottom corner, aided perhaps by Lukasz Skorupski being unsighted by his own players.

Spezia turned it around with an absolute gift from Jerdy Schouten, who under no pressure nodded a Bastoni free kick into his own net. He completely misjudged everything about the situation.

Arnautovic got Bologna back on track, sprinting away through a very high defensive line on a smart Roberto Soriano slide-rule pass and keeping his cool one-on-one to squeeze the finish between Dragowski’s legs.

There were penalty appeals from the hosts in stoppages when Kevin Agudelo went down under a Jhon Lucumi challenge, but the referee waved play on and there seemed to be very little in it.

Spezia 2-2 Bologna

Arnautovic 6, 64 (B), Bastoni 45 (S), Schouten og 54 (S)
